The history of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in the Akron area is rich and significant, beginning with the establishment of the Gamma Tau Chapter. This chapter was officially chartered on May 15, 1949, by a dedicated group of undergraduate students from Kent State University and the University of Akron. The charter members who laid the foundation for this chapter were Louis Bragg, Henry Clark, William Cox, Amos Dunlap, William Flack , William Tolliver, William Williams, John Banks, George C. Miller, Robert A. Moore, Gene P. Scruggs, and Clarence Walker. Their vision and commitment laid a strong foundation for the fraternity's presence in the region, fostering brotherhood, academic excellence, and community service.

As these pioneering members graduated, their devotion to the ideals and mission of Kappa Alpha Psi did not wane. Instead, it intensified, leading to the creation of the Akron Alumni Chapter. Recognizing the importance of sustaining the fraternity's influence and activities, these alumni came together to ensure that the spirit and work of Kappa Alpha Psi continued to thrive in the Akron community. Consequently, on March 27, 1955, the Akron Alumni Chapter was officially chartered, marking a significant milestone in the fraternity's local history. The Akron Alumni Chapter owes its existence to the visionary efforts of its esteemed founders: Dr. Eldridge T. Sharp, Dr. Melvin E. Farris, W. Howard Ford, Esquire, Paul Mead, and W. Eugene Robinson. Charter members of the newly formed chapter were John A. Banks, Dr. Wilfred Bozeman, Henry W. Clark, George C. Miller, Robert A. Moore, Gene P. Scruggs, Clarence Walker and William Wallace. Each of these men brought a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and passion to the chapter, driving its mission forward and establishing a legacy of excellence. Their collective efforts have left an indelible mark on the fraternity, inspiring future generations of Kappa men to uphold the high standards and values of Kappa Alpha Psi. Through their hard work and dedication, the Akron Alumni Chapter has become a beacon of community service, leadership, and brotherhood, reflecting the fraternity's core principles and continuing to impact the Akron area positively.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Proverbs 3:5-10 KJV
